Just to let you know, greg buyck died at your show on 12/30. He was a big guy and had a heart attack and died at the hospital. Greg Buyck absolutely loved you Lorin with a passion. He was literally one of the nicest people i have ever met. I had a great time at your NYE show, Lorin! i know that greg buyck would have wanted us to rage hard in his memory…We certainly did that on the 31st!!! Here is Greg's facebook page…if you read this im sure he would love it if you went and wrote RIP on his facebook wall!!

My name is dalton horine and I live in benton, illinois and i go to rend lake college. This message is directed to lorin, and i was just simply wondering, if there was any possibilty of having a chance to privately interview lorin with personal questions regarding youth inspiration and icon role models for teenagers and young adults through music and politics. I am a student at rend lake college, and for a study on music appretiation and political and ecnomic diversity. However, I understand if this request if denied, due to Lorin busy schedule with bassnectar. Moreover, I only feel it is important to ask out of respect for him and his co-workers and team members. For the chance to ask appropraite questions also regarding youth awareness and music diversity. Simply to feel the need to carry on a message to friends and fans of music and politics. my email is horind0610@warriormail.rlc.edu, I would be extremely thankful and honored to interview lorin….However, once again I understand if my request is shot down.

    • that sounds really interesting!

we are developing a “Question of The Week” section for things like this

honestly, exchanging meaningful thoughts with thoughtful people is one of my favorite things to do. i do not care toooo much for casual visiting or 'hanging out' but i love to analyze reality, critique perception, exchange perspective, and develop deeper and more insightful philosophies and opinions, so you can send the questions over here, unless lia wants to create a better method..

      lia?

First of all I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to reply and allowing me to ask you questions in public, I think its important to spread to word, and to keep people informed and aware about whats going in this world. Moreover, to hear honest opinions and open minded answers about the certain problems on hand.

        My questions are as followed….
        1. How do you feel immigration has affected the education system in elementary, middle, and high schools?
        2. Do you think deportation and removal is the best solution to immigration?
        3. How do you feel about Obama's trip to India costing over 200 million dollars a day? In your opinion, if you were given a chance to use that money to better society and contribute to make the world a better place, what would it be?
        4. Why do you feel there is corruption in mainstream media and press towards the government and truth on war with terrorism and war?
5.Why do you feel its so impoartant to send messages through music about politics and government?
6.Do you believe in the rumors about the “Obama Deception? or what is your outlook and view about the topic?
        7. How do you feel about the “Free Health Care” bill trying to be passed?
        8. How do you feel about nuclear weapons bio chemical weaponary going in other countries around the world as well with America?
        9. What advice would you have to give to a person would wants to follow in your footsteps, and get to where you are now, playing shows, expanding your music, becoming a dj and following your style of music?
        10. What programs do you use for your music?
        11. What type of turntable or mixers do you use when your performing?
        12. Who inspired you to become a musician?
        13. How do you feel net neutrality is becoming an issue?
        14. Do you feel your music, is becoming something more than you expected?
        15. What is your personal favorite song you've made yourself as bassnectar?
        16. People noticed you weren't on the line up for Ultra Music Festival this year, why?
        17. Do you have interests or desire to play at raves such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Beyond Wonderland, or Monster Massive to such mainstream venues?
        18. How has electronic music changed over the past 2 decades.
Thank you so much man for giving me this chance…I'll see you in st. louis, at your show on april 9th..

        • hey Dalton

          1. We are working on setting up a way to discuss topics like this (as i said these kind of real, meaningful things are the most interesting to me,,,more your first half of questions.)
          2. once the topics get serious, it is VERY important to not only have a moderator, but to only allow certain people to participate in the discussion (those who are actually interested in respectful discussion, and those who are more interested in constructively learning and sharing than bickering)

at this point we do not have that kind of space set up, so hang tight with these questions, and hit me with them as soon as we get that department up and rolling. i am happy to discuss.

          • dalton horine

I completely understand man, and once again thanks for just acknowledging the fact, that right there shows that you care. But my last question, is would there be any chance that I would be given the opportunity to meet and interview you personally before or after St Louis, at the pageant? because I am completely devoted to proving to many doubters in my school and friends that music can be used for many things, and that it is in the heart to follow what I believe in, however having the guidance and direction to pursue what it is that you do yourself as bassnectar, will be difficult. but like I said i understand if it is shot down. I know how busy you are man. hope all is well lorin take care man

          • hey dood
i would rather do it all online like this so more people can read and share and discuss and follow up. i have been doing interviews for over a decade that address a lot of the same points, so my hope is to streamline that process.

keep in touch though. feel free to check in next month if there isnt any progress, but know i have been pushing for several years to get something like this going and it is on top of the list for the website/community section

            THANKS!

          • dalton horine

I understand lorin, I know realize that those questions have basically been asked in every form possible by other interviewers. And im sure it can be, well, tolerable at some points man. But thanks for everything man, just seeing that you reply, mean alots dude, seriously. But lastly, before I submit this, I just wanted to asked 2 things. I noticed in your biography, that you came from San Fransico, my point being, is that I lived in walnut creek and was wondering where at in SF, you call home? Lastly, since I’ve been studying your music all year, I use ableton live, like yourself! Moreover, I’ve been following your style of omni-tempo and trying to mash up my personal favorite hip-hop artists and the original gansters NWA and turn up the bass and throwin in some dubstep!!! After watching dozens of tutorials and hours and hard work of practice with ableton, I only try my best to make all my songs and remixes go as hard as they can. Would there be a chance I could send you some of my remixes and tracks, to simply get professional advice and feed-back? I ask you, because the only reason why I have began all this, is because its want I want to do with my life, make hip-hop and bass/dubstep/electronic music, inspire fans and youth, and have fun with being on stage as a dj. But anyways, thanks so much lorin just for talking and responding. Your my HERO man!!!

um…. a week later, STILL digesting and picking my face up off the floor. At least thus far, this night was a foreshadowing of the year to come… A slap in the face! In the BEST way possible! I have a feeling this year will be as climactic as this show; hoping it keeps up the pace of ever spiraling upward in a fiery ball of light/chaos. You tore us all open and now all of our insides are exploding outward into the flow as it in turn reflects and refracts that back through us infinitely….

inspired <3 thank you for being that portal

p.s.- had a dream the other night that I was watching planet earth, great reefs.. miraculous colors and sea creatures were involved.. all of the sudden nectar, (lorin, you) climbed out of the T.v., quite casual and started dropping beats that rippled and drippled allong with the animals in the sea. weird funky shit, but thought you ought to know.

    • willwatkins

Lorin dropped a sick banjo/jug band tune at allgood that was quite different than his usual sampling!

  • Lorin and Bassnectar crew,

Is there any chance that a mix or video is in the works from NYE? I think everyone in attendance that night will agree we would love nothing more then to feast our ears on your amazing set again, and also for all the people that couldn't make it.

Either way I just want to thank you all for for the amazing music that i can't go a day without!!

      • Thank you! That second video I have yet to see and its is certainly one of the better viedos of that night. What I'm looking for in particular is some clips of audio files of the new tunes, i believe one of the was that new Nectar/Excision/Datsik tune? The two really creepy sounding beats near the start of his set.
