VAVA VOOM – GUESS THE TOUR

Bassnectar Va Va Voom Tour 2012Very soon we’ll be announcing the dates for our Vava Voom Spring Tour 2012, but first we’re giving you a chance to guess what cities we’ll be visiting and win tickets in the process, with a grand prize VIP trip to our massive Bass Center V event, including airfare and accommodation.

The contest is now live! The bass head who can most accurately predict the exact routing for the Spring Tour 2012 will win the grand prize. (Grand prize open to entrants in USA aged 18+ only.) Other free tickets and runners up prizes available – more info on the contest page.

We’ve been posting clues on our site and social networks, and have gathered these cryptic tidbits from across the Bassnectar Community so you can piece some of the puzzle together before you enter. Check them out below.

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR ENTRIES – CHECK YOUR INBOX TO SEE IF YOU WON TICKETS!

Clue #1 – The tour kicks off on 4/11/12 with a visit to an Indiana city where Lorin once performed alongside a Russian cohort who remixed ‘Boombox’…

Clue #2 – Lorin held two jobs in the town we are visiting on 05/03/12: teaching music programs at Juvenile Hall, and dressing up as Barney The Purple Dinosaur as a birthday party entertainer.

Clue #3 -Bass Center V 4/20/12 – not far from Bass Island. MD DE NJ will be close to hand. Friends in CT + MA have further to travel…

Clue #4 – On 04/26/11 we’re returning to the town where Bassnectar played the first, last, and only “Girls Get In Free” show where only guys were charged admission (also one of the last shows where Lorin invited the entire party up on stage, back before that was “the thing to do”, and enjoyed having his computer shut down repeatedly by spilt beer and drunken enthusiasts.)

Clue #5 – Our target city on 04/18/12 was the first to sell out in advance last year when the Spring 2011 dates were announced”

Clue #6 – On 04/13/12 we return to the city where in 2011 we gave away event tickets to volunteers to help promote improvements in Public Education.

Clue #7 – 04/28/12 – sounds like Burningman.

Clue #8 – ‘What success I achieved in the theater is due to the fact that I have always worked just as hard when there were ten people in the house as when there were thousands.’ On 4/25/11 we’ll be visiting the birthplace of the famous musician whose quote is central to the Bassnectar ethos…

Clue #9 – On 05/05/12 we’ll be playing the only city where Bassnectar has performed live with a Gamelan Orchestra.

Clue #10 – The first Saturday of the tour lands us in a city that once hosted a festival attended by 27 million revelers. Lorin first played here at an underground party in an abandoned warehouse, circa 2002.”

Clue #11 – As promised, we return to this Southeast city 4/29/12, where the roar of ‘school spirit’ erupted during our last show there

Clue 12# – Often credited as the birthplace of an entire musical genre, the city we are coming to on 05/12/12 is a bridge between two fanatic territories of bass heads. During Lorin’s first set here, the promoters were upset when he jokingly closed with Salt N Peppa’s “Push It”.

  • Lauren_alixandra

Okay, so I have found clue #7, and I spent seriously 3 or 4 hours combing the site to try to find this show. Can anyone confirm that the answer to clue #7 is indeed on this site and I just need to keep looking.

    • Anonymous

I dunno if it’s on the sight or not……just think about this one….long and hard……”sounds like burningman”……..What sounds like burningman??? this was the easiest one for me.

      • http://www.bassnectar.net Ed Basscrew

Yes this is one of the easiest ones, no detailed trivia knowledge required, just a bit of lateral thinking :)

        • Lauren_alixandra

I guess I didn’t mean Clue #7 then, I think I meant #4. The one about the “Girls get in Free” and drunk people getting beer on the equipment. I got #7 figured out fine, that was easy.

So, I am not looking for the clue, I am just looking for any hints about where this info may be hiding. Like I said, I thought he may have mentioned this show in the tour blog or regular blog but as of yet, I haven’t found it mentioned.

          • Anonymous

I think #4 is very dependent on who you know….or of course if you was there ;)

      • http://www.bassnectar.net/ Shasta Lee

i thought it was the easiest too. that and the public education support/free tix clue.

    • http://www.bassnectar.net Ed Basscrew

None of the shows have been announced. Check the post above – the contest is to guess which shows we are announcing. Each clue is for one date. Later today we’ll launch a calendar where you can enter your guesses for each date.

I can tell you there will be 21 dates to guess, and we’re publishing 12 clues, 10 of which are already online. People have already published lists of where you can find them. Possibly we will do the same once the contest launches :)

      • Mapolow Hector

so what happens in the event of a tie? surely more than one person will guess them all

  • irieyogi

Does the winner receive two tickets, including airfare and accommodation? Just curious, I couldn’t imagine anyone having to fly and attend all by their self.

    • http://www.bassnectar.net Ed Basscrew

Yes, the grand prize is two trips including airfare, accommodation and VIP tickets to Bass Center V.

  • http://www.bassnectar.net Ed Basscrew

Clue #10: The first Saturday of the tour lands us in a city that once hosted a festival attended by 27 million revelers. Lorin first played here at an underground party in an abandoned warehouse, circa 2002.

    • http://twitter.com/kirkftw Kirk

      27 million?!

  • Lauren_alixandra

I wish to re-word my question . . . I am hoping for an answer from someone on the Bassnectar crew. Can you tell me if Clue #4, in regards to “Girls get in for free”, is this information actually hiding somewhere in cyber world or is it one of those “if you were there, you know, otherwise, make a guess”. I have spent so many hours looking for some mention of this show and I just want to know if I should keep combing cyber space . . .

    • NectarBass

I’m with you.. I decided to go with an mildly educated guess haha

    • Mcnuggies4

I’m in the same boat as you man.

This is the worlds fair in 1893 which took place in Chicago. Looks like bassnectars coming to Chicago!!

  • Justin Fiocca

    DONT GIVE UP PEOPLE!!

  • some one who cares

11 is tallahassee i am not going to win so might as well help someone else win..By the way if anyone sees this and agrees play more old school stuff dubstep is over rated as a motherfucker and it gives huge headaches its fun and i enjoy it (kinda sounds like robots having sex if they could) but where so butterfly or the sound you know  15 bassnectar shows this years and sadly i think your blowing up to quick to many people  catching  on to what everyone else is doing skrillex was nominated to 5 grammy’s this year thank you hipsters love you though i loveddddddddd it a couple years back

    • Tlmays13

yep i would partially agree. he used to have more solid basslines. i used to like to say bassnectar invented his own genre… BASS. but he’s turned too far towards dubstep. i like dubstep, and it’s cool that he tries to incorporate all types of music, but there’s been an overabundance of dubstep lately. like his remix of voodoo is just too ;skd[2q0ir03-8)!)(#*!#92!#!~@#3… what? why? it sounds like “just noise.” same with the remix of upside down. well, i didn’t like upside down in the first place. at least he has the pretty cool rap in the middle of the remix. anyways, i’ll always be a huge fan but it’s disappointing. on a more positive note, color storm is da bomb

p.s. i like the hipsters. it’s the bros that bother me and youngins who don’t know what they’re getting themselves into.

      • spaceylacey

i just want to say that the voodoo mix sounds like metal not dubstep. and my impression of it was proven when i saw kids moshing to it NYE…just saying. ill agree though that the majority of dubstep is just disappointing because its not solid tunes they just dont layer enough or something. and i cant listen to it more than once, because the sound expires so fast. too repeatitive and simple. bassnectar has a sorta flutter about his music. like this nomad hop u could hear more clearly in mesmorizing. but it seems to me like each album has its own sound or feeling. so maybe lately that sound or muse has been a dubstep style sound but either way it still sounds like the nectar not dubstep.

ps. why do ppl have to always profile people like the police and put them in these catagories. just like racism, its an ethnocentic approach to understanding people. its whats inside of people and the spirit they posses not whatever ego trip they are on…so love all heads :) <3

        • http://twitter.com/colleenmcnasty robot_bass

THERE WERE MOSH PITS AT NYE?! wtf where was i?! how did i miss this. moshing a nectar show is probably #2 on my bucket list, only coming second to reading harry potter & the philosopher’s stone translated into latin.

anyway, i totally agree with basically everything you said. every BN album *does* have its own vibe, its own ‘genre,’ its own personality. and even though they are all different, i love it all. you couldn’t play it out or mesh it in with ‘dubstep’ if you tried — bassnectar music is simply of an entirely different caliber than the rest.

          • Bpw6890

I totally missed the moshing thank God. I left the show at Roo last year cus I was elbowed in the fucking face. Not cool when I was trying to enjoy the show.

          • http://www.bassnectar.net/ Shasta Lee

i’m not one to join moshing since i’m just over 5 ft tall. and i don’t really understand why people enjoy it. but they do, so i let them do their thing and i do my thing (dance all the way in the back where there is actually ROOM to MOVE).
            to each their own!

          • Bpw6890

Yeah I feel the same. But respecting others is big too. So if someone doesn’t wanna mosh dont hit them in the face :(

          • spaceylacey

YES! and it was bananas! it only lasted for that remix so it was straight for those around. luckly for me i was looking down on it so my face was free from bows swinging.
Nerd power on that OG HP title drop :D Love it!

ive gotta give my love for mosh pits though. when ur at a metal show thats the place to go in and RAGE and dance. one day i just wanna get in the center at like a deathmetal show and spin around and plie or something. thats a bucketlister right there. if i see one happening im wise to move. one time at a tool show i got my foot smashed A LOT, but i was too busy keeping my face from melting off in bliss that i didnt really mind. back in the day i would go to a lot of local metal shows and ive seen some nasty things in pits. like girls getting round house kicks to the face. tragic im sure but hey if u cant stand the heat get the fuck out the pit :D

BPW6890, maybe that elbow to the face was to wake u up after wasting ur money on Bonnaroo.
nothing but love to you but im just not a fan of MTVaroo..

          • http://twitter.com/colleenmcnasty robot_bass

            that’s weird
i wonder why disqus moved this comment all the way up here
            “MTVaroo” lmfao
and yeah, if there is anything which competes with bassnectar for my utmost love, it’s harry potter
            you know you love it

          • Bpw6890

It’s not a waste I’ve grown up there literally. I was there before it was big. And no one asked you to be an asshole. The dude was THE ONLY one trying to start a mosh pit. Don’t be a dick. And this ISNT a death metal show. You must have commented on the wrong website. I’ve been to metal shows when I was 15 even so yes I am familiar with mosh pits there.

          • spaceylacey

sorry if that came off wrong. wasnt trying to be a dick. it wasnt directed toward you at all or the people that are part of it. it was directed toward the people putting it on and the weak excuses for headliners they have. and again my opinion about roo has nothing to do with the kids there. im positive they are golden, just like ur self. i just thought it was sweet to see that break out for like a matter of a minute, to see this overwhelming charge in a group of people. and quote myself, ‘nothing but love to you’ <3

          • Bpw6890

It’s all groovy :) But I do understand your feeling toward Roo. It does suck that it has become one big money making scheme. Which is why I’m hoping to make the pilgrimage to Waka this year as well. And as for moshin, I’m totally for it but only if there’s more than one person doing it lol. And if I get a chance to move before I get punched lol. Sorry it just threw me off when you are dancing your heart out and then one dude decides he wants to start a solo moshpit and hits me :/ meh it’s all good. I think someone ended up punching him anyway. The guy wasnt a nice person anyway.
Much love though. Everyone has their own expressions of music :)

    • Thefj62

It always amuses me when people get their panties in a bunch about someone achieving success. if you don’t like the music, then don’t listen, but please save the whining for your girlfriend or maybe your boss. They already signed up to listen to you run your mouth.I could car less about how OG you think you are… If you have to shout it out, you’ve already missed the point of everything that is going on here. Good luck with all that.

    • http://twitter.com/colleenmcnasty robot_bass

  • Alaina Briones

    Clue 11 – KNOXVILLLEEEEEE WOOOOO

    • Bee.

Knoxville? What does that have to do with school spirit? I’m guessing Charlotte. He played at the Grady Cole Center, which is basically a school gymnasium.

      • Bpw6890

The Univeristy of Tennessee is there dude

        • http://twitter.com/kirkftw Kirk

So does that mean it could be Athens because the University of Georgia is there?

          • Bpw6890

He played Knoxville last year and we already knew he was gonna play again there in April just didn’t know the date. I mean it could be. The Varium is almost on the campus of UT and that’s where he played.

  • Natalie

    Imma give it a shot..

  • Natalie

I’m going with the guess method. I like puzzles… this is Redonkulous! :)
