Massive Attack Bootleg

Happy Solstice!!!

Today is the longest day of the year, and we are spending it deep in a whirlpool of brainstorming. So many exciting projects and concepts are being hatched, and while we are being Mad Scientists in the Labs, we wanted to share another little piece of music:

The Massive Attack Remix is here and ready for your ears and bodies to consume!!!

One of the most influential bands in the ‘trip hop’ universe (and well beyond), Massive Attack made a massive impact since the early nineties (if not before!)… This remix has been unfinished for over 10 years. I first played it at Burning Man in 2000, and as many of my hybrid mashup creations, it has constantly evolved. As with any customized edit it has taken so many variations from uber-deep hypnotic eyes-closed moments to crazy jump-up 10 feet high bounce sessions. This version kind of goes both ways, and includes a sizzling lazer synth over loco 808 bass and an additional vocal dedicated to the heat of summer time. As with all these mash up edits, it is a gesture of respect to musicians who have inspired me, i hope you enjoy it at some moment in the future.

Thanks to Lia for splicing together some of the dopest video content of the past 3 weeks of mayhem! We really appreciate you guys sharing your photos and video with us, it gives me goosebumps to feel it from your perspective, and verse vica. As i said before every one of these last shows has been almost intolerably hot, i have left the stage soaked to the skin and headrushed off of boiling adrenaline, and somehow the energy is just building and getting more intense every time – THAT IS BECAUSE OF YOU!!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING! It is like a live social experiment every time, and it is constantly blowing my mind.

NEXT UP: ALL GOOD & FORCASTLE!!!!!!

STAY TUNED FOR MORE SUMMER INFO, AS WELL AS FALL TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT ON JULY 13!!!!

Be safe, and love life!

Bassnectar’s Guide To Summer Frenzy 2010

stubbs-family-photoZZMAAASHHH!!!!

Welcome to Bassnectar’s Guide To Summer Frenzy.
After a raging Timestretch spring tour we have officiaaaally kicked off summer festival season. Last weekend’s over-slammed set closing out our stage at Summer Camp was bonkers, bursting at the seams, and an amazing sight (thanks to the extra bright and glowing crowd). Afterwards our crew made a mad dash for Austin, TX to a sold-out show at the legendary outdoor venue Stubb’s. Hotter than hell, and oversold, the show was the heaviest yet for us in Texas, and now it’s onward to a season of bass and heat.

I wanted to flash-release a little summer time jam, and decided on a brand new loopy remix i did of an awesome band called “Sleigh Bells” …it isn’t meant to be a banger or anything more than a nice, thick slice of dreamy sunshine (and bass). Enjoy!

Magical World feat. Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado

It is a musical mutatant marriage between elements of my song ‘Timestretch’ and Nelly Furtado’s classic ‘Turn Out The Lights’. A few weeks ago i heard a bootleg by SLOF MAN; a dope remix of Nelly Furtado’s song, but his bassline was NOTE FOR NOTE identical to Timestretch. My first thought was “oh daym this is going to mix perfectly with timestretch” and as i listened more i decided to take the mix further. So i re-tuned elements of my track, and re-mixed it into a more straightforward arrangement, laid bits of the acapella over the beats, and went to work. My buddy Sayr even suggested a different melodic idea for the bassline, and my homies at Arlyn Studios in Austin stretched and edited her vocals, doing micro-tuning and loving it up. It was a group effort, and of course it is an unofficial bootleg, i decided to call it ‘Magical World’. I played it on repeat all weekend and on multiple occasions my body was helplessly covered in waves of goosebumps. I was overcome by thoughts of how special it is to be alive, and how magical it truly is!!!

Welcome to another Bassnectar Transmission.

This episode is 44 minutes and 25 seconds of 10th-generation genre-re-wiring, exploring bass music through an open-minded lens, regardless of tempo, or even beat-structure… this sound clash aims straight for your body, with the intent to melt you down into a fidgeting, wobbling mess of enthusiasm and delight. In addition to some of my favorite old records and samples, this mix features several brand new Bassnectar tracks, heaps of exclusive edits, re-edits, and re-re-re-edits. Lot’s of re. Lot’s of mix. Lot’s of edits. We tore our favorite drum & bass to shreds, injected hip hop with some pogo-stick bass, amped up the tempo of dubstep, freaked out the gypsies, gave a nod to the dreamy 80’s and ended up similar to where we started off: omni-tempo maximalism strikes again.

Enjoy the ride.
