    Hello, and welcome to one of my favorite parts of Bassnectar Land: our $/BH project!!!!

    This is something we designed to enourage everyone to think outside the tight circles of their immediate friends and family, make a contribution to other people, and give back to the communities around you in creative, meaningful ways. I decided back in 2010 that as long as I continue to tour, I will donate one dollar of every single ticket sold to a Bassnectar show in North America towards making some kind of positive social impact. I have a huge team who helps me with this, and we hope you are inspired to get involved.

    So today we are kicking off another "Dollar Per Bass Head Election". If you recall from our past campaigns, we highlight several organizations, charities, or community projects which we think deserve support, and we encourage you to help us choose how to give the donations.

    On this campaign we will be donating $100,000 of the funds raised and we are asking you to vote on 4 charities that are close to our hearts and making a positive social impact in the world. The organization that receives the most votes will receive $50,000, the 2nd will receive $25,000, the 3rd will receive $15,000 and the 4th will receive $10,000. Voting is open through until end of day Friday Sep 21st.

    In a sense this is your money, as you paid for it when you bought a ticket, so we want you to feel like you are as much a part of this as possible! Please take a moment to read through a description of each nonprofit. We encourage you to visit their websites and get involved if their ideas speak to you. At the end of the gallery, vote for your favorite. Thanks!

  • A Home Within A Home Within
    A Home Within

    A Home Within is a national network of volunteer mental health professionals who provide for the emotional needs of foster children. It matches these children with licensed therapists who provide weekly pro-bono therapy. Its goal is to have these children become healthy, strong and productive members of their communities. It is the only national organization focused exclusively on meeting the emotional needs of foster youth.

    A Home Within operates 50 chapters in 22 states, with each chapter's therapists supported locally by a Clinical Director and Consultation Group Leader, seeking to break the cycle of chronic loss experienced by so many foster youth with a simple, scalable model. Through programs like Fostering Art, it supports students in creating images and essays using photography and creative writing to document their lives as a form of self-expression.

    Democracy Now is a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program hosted by journalists Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. It provides access to people and perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. corporate-sponsored media, including independent and international journalists, ordinary people from around the world who are directly affected by U.S. foreign policy, grassroots leaders and peace activists, artists, academics and independent analysts.

    It is funded entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers, and foundations. It does not accept advertisers, corporate underwriting, or government funding in order to maintain its independence. Here are ways that you can get involved: .

    Free Press

    Free Press is a national organization fighting for free speech online. It is pushing back on the corporate takeover of the internet and other media systems, and working to put control of the airwaves in the hands of the people.

    In January, Free Press joined the outcry against SOPA and PIPA, mobilizing against the ultimately doomed Web-censorship bills and participating in the nationwide protest that galvanized millions of Americans to engage with Internet policy for the first time. Just before Independence Day, Free Press launched the Declaration of Internet Freedom, a document built on five core principles and designed to unite the groups and individuals that came together to defeat SOPA and PIPA behind a positive agenda for the future of the open Internet across the globe. The Declaration of Internet Freedom set online communities around the world abuzz. Within a month of its launch, more than 1,800 groups from 130 countries had signed it, and it has been translated into 63 languages.

    Headcount

    Headcount is a nonpartisan organization that stages voter registration drives at concerts. It strives to make civic participation easy and fun and raise political consciousness. It believes that by galvanizing the music community, musicians and their fans can be leaders in social movements.

    You’ll find Headcount at more live music events than any nonprofit in the world. It has registered over 200,000 voters since 2004, and built a huge volunteer network that registers voters at as many as 1,000 concerts per year. It also produces "Music for Action" campaigns on issues such as climate change and education, and produces themed concerts, network TV public service announcements, and award-winning digital media campaigns featuring prominent musicians.
